WELCOME TO CHECHNYA by David France awarded at the 2020 Berlinale

WELCOME TO CHECHNYA has won the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary. After a world premiere at the last Sundance Film Festival, the new film by David France has had a great run at the 2020 Berlinale where it has collected a number of awards and standing ovations at the end of every public screening. 

The Audience Award is given by the Berlinale section Panorama together with radioeins and rbb television (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg). 

Welcome to Chechnya has also been awarded with the Amnesty International Film Award and the Teddy Activist Award. You can now watch the moment where David France was called on stage during the Teddy Award Ceremony by clicking here.

WELCOME TO CHECHNYA, directed by acclaimed writer and Oscar® nominated director David France, shadows a group of brave activists risking their lives to confront the ongoing anti-LGBTQ campaign in the Russian republic of Chechnya. With unfettered access and a commitment to protecting anonymity, this documentary exposes these underreported atrocities, while highlighting an extraordinary group of people confronting deadly brutality.
