Leonardo (Manfredi Marini) is a Palermo teenager who travels to London to pursue a business degree only to pivot suddenly into an Italian literature program in Siena, where he clashes with his instructor, the curriculum, and most chaotically, with himself. Making his feature filmmaking debut, writer-director Giovanni Tortorici channels the highs and lows of a restless youth colliding headlong into the concrete realities of adulthood. Produced by Luca Guadagnino, on whose film sets the former P.A. received his cinematic training, Diciannove (Nineteen) is the account of a young man’s sentimental education — and in Tortorici marks the birth of a bold, brash and bemusing filmmaking tale.
